Easy a capella song

Try to feel Joy when you can (SAT/Pop-Gospel Style)

Unaccompanied three-part gospel-style song

‘Try to feel Joy’ is a great favourite with our choir. It’s a rhythmic, swing gospel-style song, with a positive, non-religious message about living life to the full, and making the most of good times when they come along. This is the original three-part arrangement; designed to be taught by ear, (which is the best way to learn and perform this kind of music) and believe it or not, we learned, and then sang this version for more than a decade before it was ever written down at all! Take a look at the score and lyrics below, while you listen. *There is an SATB version of this available as well.

Lyrics

Try to feel Joy when you can –
(LYRICS for SAT version)

Rise up for the rosy light,
Lay down for the long, sweet night,
Gather up the world in your own two hands,
And try to feel joy when you can.

Stride out on the busy street,
Lay down in the grasses sweet,
Gather up the world in your own two hands,
And try to feel joy when you can.

Joyful, joyful, joyful, joyful, joyful, joyful –
Try to feel joy when you can.

Breathe deep on a golden day,
Your burden will melt away,
Gather up the world in your own two hands,
And try to feel joy when you can.

Dark times? – you can still be strong,
No trouble can last that long,
Gather up the world in your own two hands,
And try to feel joy when you can.

Just one day at a time is best, seize that day and await the rest, live each minute with all your zest -
And try to feel joy when you can.

Rise up for the rosy light,
Lay down for the long, sweet night,
Gather up the world in your own two hands,
And try –
And try –
And try to feel joy when you can!
